Olivia is Walking on Sunshine

Olivia Palermo and Johotness were joined by her mother, Lynn Hutchings, for a family outing in New York City, NY on Saturday, May 19. The cozy scene occurred during a stroll in the West Village.

In related news, Olivia admitted to InStyle that she “fell into fashion.” Seriously. “I was really into sports as a kid, especially ice hockey. There were never any female commentators and I always wanted to be one,” she told the British magazine.

She also admitted to a love for the Great British institution known as Topshop! “Time flies when I’m in there. I’ll pop in for 15 minutes and be gone for hours,” she confessed. “I wore a pair of their floral pants to the Topshop Unique show which were really fun. Johannes also introduced me to Reiss a few years ago; the clothes are gorgeously simple and chic.”

Olivia Shakes a Few Feathers at 2011 British Fashion Awards

Olivia Palermo dressed to impress at the 2011 British Fashion Awards in London, England on Monday, November 28. When fashion icons such as Victoria Beckham are in attendance, you really have to step up your game! And Olivia didn’t let us down. Olivia wore a long-sleeved, beaded and fringed dress from the Matthew Williamson Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Olivia carried a vintage blue clutch and wore black ‘Ariel’ flame side mesh ankle boots from Topshop.

Fashion Fauxfile- Kristin Cavallari

Wednesday, October 12, Kristin Cavallari was looking quite stylish while running errands in West Hollywood. She wore a slouchy black blazer, black silk top and a printed maxi skirt with an uneven hem. Kristin accessorized with a pair of gladiator style heels, oversize sunglasses and her staple Alexander Wang leather bag.

A similar outfit follows so you can achieve Kristin’s look without the massive pricetag.  This outfit would be perfect for an afternoon lunch with your girlfriends, and both the blazer and top could be worn with a pair of skinny jeans for a seperate outfit.

The high low hem skirt is a trend that you can expect to see a lot of soon, it is also known as the “mullet” skirt. We picked out one in a neutral cream colour from inlovewithfashion.com ($64). Instead of having a print on the bottom we found a printed sleeveless blouse from topshop.com ($20). You can never go wrong with a black blazer and we found an affordable one at forever21.com ($40). To finish off the outfit grab a pair of strappy gladiator heels from heels.com ($100), and don’t forget to accessorize with an oversized handbag, sunglasses and a long silver necklace.

Fashion Fauxfile- Olivia Palermo

Socialite and fashionista Olivia Palermo attended the Topshop Unique Spring Summer 2012 Show at The Old Waterloo Rail Terminal on Sunday, September 18.

Although Olivia always seems to look stylish we loved her outfit more then usual for this event. She went for a 70’s boho style pairing a flowing maxi skirt with a tailored blazer. She accessorized with a trendy floppy hat, open toed suede booties and a chain necklace. Olivia always dresses as though the outfit was put together so effortlessly but it’s always so well put together.

A similar outfit follows so you can add these pieces to your wardrobe without breaking the bank. Each of these seperates could be worn together or with other items making them super versatile for fall.

We picked a three-quarter sleeve blazer ($28) and a printed maxi skirt ($18) both from Forever21.com. To spice this outfit up a bit we selected a stylish floppy black hat ($19) from oldnavy.com, a Matt & Nat Ginger clutch ($60) from zappos.com, and a Bead And Caps Collar necklace from TopShop. To complete the outfit we chose a pair of Charlotte Ronson Kurt Open Toe Canvas Booties which are on sale for $70 at shopbop.com.

Lauren’s Favorite Five Fashion Looks

In Lauren’s recent collaboration with Allure, she not only took over their facebook page for a week to answer hair & makeup Q&A’s, but also revealed her own five personal favorite looks.

Referring to the outfit above, Lauren said, “It’s from the MTV Movie Awards in 2009—this dress was originally a tent dress, and we completely altered the silhouette to make it fitted. Not very many people liked this look, but I was trying something new and I stand by it. I don’t take chances as much as I should on the red carpet, but I had fun with this look. I wore a shrunken leather jacket with it that evening and felt very rock and roll.”

This is definitely not a very ‘Lauren Conrad‘ look that we’re used to seeing.  But we were among the people who did like it.  After all, we love risks and she finally took one.  Most of all, we love Lauren’s awareness of her style.

Lauren continues, “Here, I’m at Teen Vogue’s 8th Annual Young Hollywood Party in 2010. I get very self-conscious in shorts, so for me to wear them on the red carpet was a big deal. I like this look because I felt sophisticated without looking too mature.”

It’s well known that this is one of our favorite LC looks, and one that gave her some added fashion clout.

Lauren wore this blue dress to the 2008 MTV Movie Awards, and reveals something personal about her look, saying, “I was upset this day because I had put on a couple pounds, and I felt chubby. So I decided to wear two pairs of Spanx under my dress, which was from my own line. Joke was on me. I had to leave early because I could barely breathe and felt like I was going to pass out.  It’s funny now, because looking at the pictures, I look fine. Not sure what I was stressing about.”

She was definitely crazy thinking she’d put on weight, because we can’t see an extra pound on the girl.  But everyone has their “fat” days, so we can relate. Lately the one-shoulder dress has become a staple Kardashian look, so it’s nice to see Lauren wearing it first.

This is another MTV event, this time for MTV Hosts The Hills Season 4 Finale.  Series 4 was really the last series that Lauren was actually into, which is reflected in her fashion choice of a sassy mini dress.

Lauren explains, saying, “I was freeeeeezing this night. We were outside for almost an hour and there was snow on the ground. Phillip Lim is my favorite designer and I thought this dress was so fun! Also, I wore a faux bob that night to change things up.”

This is a beautiful, carefree look on Lauren, especially when you compare it to Audrina’s look of a full length burgundy gown, which is really more suited to a prom.

Lauren explains look #4, saying, “This is from when I was on The Late Show with David Letterman back in 2009. I liked this little Topshop dress because the sequins were almost matte, so it didn’t look too glitzy. I bought the dress earlier that day and did my own makeup.”

We love the fact she did her own hair, makeup and styling, so it probably saved her a lot of money.  We’re not quite so sure on the matte sequins though, they look pretty glitzy in this photo.

Fashion Fauxfile: Heidi Klum

Heidi Klum Party

Heidi Klum was your Best Dressed from the 2011 Kids Choice Awards, so we tracked down her stylish summery look.

The key piece is obviously the black shortsleeve mini dress.  We couldn’t find an exact match, but this plain black mini dress will prove to be very versatile.  It costs $178 and is by Duskin.

Since we chose a plain black dress, we also decided to add this feature necklace by Jennifer Loiselle to really give the look some impact.

To complete the outfit, we recommend these strappy, black, wedge heels for $140 at Topshop and this gorgeous black lips clutch bag from Lulu Guinness.

Fashion Fauxfile – Whitney Port

Whitney Nail Salon

Whitney hit the nail salon in Beverly Hills on Wednesday, March 16,  in a cute, sporty outfit of a denim shirt, grey shorts and a leopard tank.

We found it really inspiring for a Spring off-duty look.  We found this Topshop denim shirt for $70.  Whit has used leopard in a rock & roll way which we love a lot.  How about this tank from H&M to add a bit of 80’s to your outfit?

These short shorts from Rag & Bone are 100% cotton and super soft.  They’re also currently on sale for $115, so well worth snapping up.   To accessorize we found this black mini satchel from Dorothy Perkins for approximately $35 and these sunglasses from D&G for $135.

Steal Her Style [Olivia Palermo]

There’s no denying that Olivia Palermo is one stylish girl, with her finger on the fashion pulse.  She proved this while in China for Mango on Saturday, March 19, wearing a flowy, chiffon maxi skirt that embodies the 70’s trend.

Although controversial, Olivia has been trying the maxi skirt trend for a while now, with varying degrees of success.  We do think that this style of maxi suits Olivia very well, especially the way she is wearing the same color shirt and has made her waist a feature with the beige leather belt.

If you can’t wait for the Mango maxi to hit the stores, try this one from one of Olivia’s other favorite designers, Tibi.  It’s very similar to her Mango skirt, is made from 98% silk and available for $310 at Shopbop.  Enter to win our Shopbop gift card and you can snag this skirt.

Or if you’re after a more universally flattering maxi skirt, we recommend a streamlined maxi like this one from Topshop. It’s made with jersey so will fit right into the sheer trend, and is only $40 so it won’t break the budget.

You know that stripes are one of our favorite prints, so naturally we weren’t going past this maxi in a hurry!  They are horizontal stripes, so won’t make your widest part any slimmer, but as long as you pair this skirt with a solid black top we think it would definitely highlight your curves.  This skirt is $59.95 from Australian high street store Portmans.

The main issue people are having with maxi skirts is that the excess of fabric can either swamp a slender frame or make a curvy frame appear larger.  If you stick to one of the streamlined maxi’s though, you can still work the trend, steal some of Miss Palermo’s style and look pretty damn amazing.

Fashion Fauxfile- Lauren Conrad

Lauren 1970s

We think this Lauren Conrad outfit only epitomizes her own California-girl style, but also the 1970’s mood that has taken over fashion at the moment.

Lauren wore this outfit last Friday, March 4, in Hollywood with her Paper Crown colleague and friend, Maura McManis, and even though we’re admittedly not big fans of the super long pants-hem, the way these jeans give Lauren’s legs that super long look has won us over.  We love this pair by Current/Elliot, for $218.

Wear those jeans with this awesome peach shirt from Topshop which looks a lot like Lauren’s, but also has a sexy cut-out detail at the back.  We know Lauren’s shoes aren’t visible in this photo but we think she might’ve picked some 1970’s style wedges like these Dolce Vita heels from Piperlime, for $165.

Lauren loves her Chanel, but for a more affordable solution we’ve found this quilted bag from Yes Style for only $65.  To accessorize and complete your look, we suggest these oversize sunglasses from Fred Flare for $12 and this love knuckle-duster ring from Miss Selfridge for approximately $12.

Chloe vs. Olivia

Heat World

theOutfit: Topshop Maxi Skirt

theFaceoff: Chloe Green vs. Olivia Palermo

theDeets: One digital print blue maxi skirt, two pretty young things. Who will be the winner in this fabulous fashion face-off?

Chloe just happens to be the daughter of Topshop boss Philip Green, so no doubt she has full access to every collection the fashion-fave produces.  Chloe wore the pleated maxi skirt to the recent Burberry show during London Fashion week, and styled it with a longsleeve blue top, furry vest and long necklace.  Making sure not to distract from the volume of her vest, Chloe wore her hair up in a top knot.

Olivia was the first of the two to be seen in the skirt, at the Matthew Williamson show, so that alone gives her a slight edge.  She also kept things streamlined with a simple cream top and made the most of her tiny waist with a skinny brown leather belt.  This is an important style tip to note actually.  When wearing a voluminous item like this flowing maxi skirt, it’s often going to be more flattering to keep the rest of your outfit basic, and to show off your natural shape.  Olivia kept this theme with her hair and makeup, which are both natural and classic.

Who do you think wore the Topshop skirt better?  Vote below.
