A Good Cause: Celebrity Coat Drive!

jamie chung

It isn’t winter yet, however if you’re anything like Hills2City, you’re putting together your outerwear wardrobe as we speak!  Some of our favorite celebrities have taken this a step further, by participating in Lole’s Yellow Label Program.

The good people over at Lole’s explain, “Initiated by Lolë President and CEO, Bernard Mariette, this program is part of Lolë’s commitment to create long-lasting, versatile clothing while reducing unnecessary purchases and waste by giving an old coat a second life.”

In it’s third year, the Yellow Label Program now involves auctioning off celebrity coats, with proceeds going to AmpleHarvest.org.  In 2013, the celebrities taking part are Elizabeth Rohm, Kristen Bell, Lisa Rinna, Jamie Chung (Jamie’s coat is pictured above) and Beth Stern.

However, it’s not just the celebs who are able to make a contribution, Lole’s are hoping you can make a difference too:

This year, there are more ways than ever to do good. Simply visit the brand new Lolë Atelier in Santa Barbara or Lolë Partnership Store in Salt Lake City to donate, or to be part of this year’s nationwide mail-in program, go to the webpage and follow the steps detailed. If your coat meets the criteria, Lolë will email a complimentary UPS Return Label to use to send in your donation. Clean coats of any brand or size and worn less than five years will be accepted, and Lolë will deliver the sold coats to their new owners, free of charge. For everyone participating in the Lolë Yellow Label Program, Lolë will provide a $50 gift card towards the purchase of a new Lolë coat.

When asked why she had been so successful when a lot of her co-stars on theHills haven’t, Lauren said, “I have no idea [what I did differently]. I think I was just really lucky, to be honest.  I think that I didn’t love [being a reality star]. I think some people loved it – they loved the attention. It always kind of made me uncomfortable and so I was happy to leave.”

She also added, “I’m not looking to go back.”

Viewers of Laguna Beach and theHills will remember that Lauren always had a thing for charity, organising her friends and supporting different causes. As she shared on Access Hollywood, it’s nice to see that Lauren is still donating her time and energy for good causes.

This Saturday, October 13, Lauren will be hosting the Susan G. Komen Designs For The Cure Gala in Los Angeles, and in addition to this,  will be dressing breast cancer survivors in designs from her Paper Crown label.

Lauren shared that her preparations for the night will be mainly emotional, saying “I think my main focus is going to be waterproof mascara and making it through the night [without crying].”

It’s quite the love match for now former Bachelorette, Emily Maynard and her chosen fiancee, Jef Holm. Only days after the season finale, the engaged couple took the plane overseas to visit Africa and fund projects in Jef’s company, People Water, in several villages in Ghana.

“Emily and I spent a week visiting different villages around Ghana that have recently received fresh water wells,” Jef shared with People Magazine and added, “We typically visited two villages a day and spent some time interacting with the villagers.”  It’s great to see that this couple likes each other even in conditions outside of the glamorous globe trotting on ABC.  They were smart to do some  less fancy things together to see how it would go.

Emily has told Jef before she would want to go on a mission trip, but at the time she didn’t know one was planned at the end of July. As she learned the visit would involve children in Ghana, it was obvious she would be a part of the cause. “She brought the biggest suitcase I’ve ever seen full of dolls, toys, books and bubbles for the kids in every village. Emily was by far the most loved person on the trip,” Jef told the press.

As for the happy couple, this is only the beginning of a new journey, he added, “We’re both looking forward to helping more people around the world and a lifetime of adventures together.” They are even planning to return to Africa in September, only this time, Emily wants to bring her daughter, Ricki, “and make it a whole family thing.”
