“These aint no slashies folks, these are the pure breeds.”  This is not only one of our favourite quotes from Zoolander, but could equally be describing the difference between all other award shows, and the Academy Awards, as this is the night where the fashion big guns come out to play.

The 86th Academy Awards were held last night, Sunday, March 2 at the Dolby Theatre in Hollywood.  Hosted by Ellen DeGeneres and featuring big wins by 12 Years A Slave and Gravity; the best actor and actress awards went to Matthew McConaughey and Cate Blanchett.

Matthew’s co-star in How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days, and Oscars presenter Kate Hudson struck Hills2City immediately as a Best Dressed contender; she looked elegant and very Old Hollywood in a white silk gown by Atelier Versace.  In a look that could’ve come straight from American Hustle, Kate’s dress was cut down to the waist, and featured a back detail that hung from her shoulders.

Newcomer Lupita Nyong’o won the Best Supporting Actress award for her amazing role in 12 Years A Slave.  As well as her beautiful acceptance speech that left people in tears, Lupita’s style shined brightly.

Just like Kate Hudson’s gown, Lupita’s Prada gown featured a deep-v neckline, but instead of a slinky silhouette, kicked out from the waist to give a real prom-queen effect.  Lupita wore a gold headband, gold and diamond studs and a gold bracelet to compliment her gown.

Emma Watson

Emma Watson was a presenter at last night’s Oscars, and was another of Hills2City’s favorite looks of the event.  The Harry Potter star looked elegant, yet also quite directional in a gown by Vera Wang.

Emma and co-presenter Joseph Gordon-Levitt immediately struck MTV and E! as “the Oscars fantasy couple.” MTV suggested, “The big takeaway was, undoubtedly, that Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emma Watson should be a couple. Or star in a rom-com together. Or star in a rom-com together and then become a couple.”
