LC’s Top Ten Tips For Fall Style

Although September has really only just hit us, all the fashion-forward girls out there will no doubt have been starting to work some fall trends into their wardrobes.  Lauren Conrad took to her blog just before Fashion Week, to give fans her Top Ten Tips for the month ahead, which she plans to make a regular occurance.

Lauren is known for her classic style, but here she turns some of the old rules on their head:

Double up on denim. Some may refer to this look as a “denim sandwich,” but I think head-to-toe denim is a definite do for fall. Just be careful not to mix two like-colored pieces. Ideally you want contrasting shades—like a super light denim (or chambray) top and dark denim bottoms. To give the look a girly touch, add a brightly colored statement necklace.

Belt your vests and jackets. One of my favorite ways to create a feminine silhouette with fall’s bulkier, boyish fashions is by cinching the waist with a belt.

Wear white after Labor Day! If you ask me, the moratorium on white clothing after Labor Day is simply outdated. Besides, my favorite shades for the fall and winter seasons are creamy ivories and wintry whites.

Transition your sundress by layering over a lightweight sweater and pairing the look with low-rise booties.

Mix prints this month! I dare you to mix two printed pieces you wouldn’t otherwise wear together.

Add a cardigan. Transition your summer styles by topping them off with an oversize cardigan and closed-toe shoes (or sandals if it is still warm in your town). Personally, I love the feel of a “boyfriend” cardigan since it feels more relaxed and the oversize silhouette is cozy for fall.

Wear socks with your frocks. Give your favorite dress, skirt, or pair of cropped pants an autumnal overhaul by wearing a fun pair of socks with your favorite pair of heels.

Wear your cutoffs right into fall by pairing them with tights and a lightweight sweater or dolman sleeve top and tough boots.

Modify your maxi for cooler temperatures by pairing it with boots, a belt and a cool jacket.

Add some lace. Mixing lace into your fall looks is a lovely way to work in a delicate layer that will contrast with fall’s heavy threads.
