The Most Stylish Pins In NY

Olivia Palermo out in the city in New YorkHuffingtonPost

Now that the weather is finally warming up, Olivia Palermo gives us the nod that it’s time to get our legs out for summer.

The ever-fashionable Olivia was out in New York City on Monday, May 13, wearing a black and white knit over a button down shirt, a floral blazer and black asymetrical shorts to show off her gorgeous pins.

Olivia accessorized with a pair of black leather brogues, chunky gold jewelry, tortoiseshell sunglasses and a red leather bag.

In other Olivia news, back in April she made the list of The 7 Most Hated People in Fashion.  For longtime fans of theCity, this should come as no surprise, considering the bad attitude she showed throughout the two seasons.  The Huffington Post article also included Anna Wintour, Victoria Beckham, Miranda Kerr, Joan Rivers, John Galliano and New York Times fashion critic Cathy Horyn, so at least Olivia was in good company!

The Huffington Post says that Olivia earned her “most hated” rep for the following:

The New York socialite had her first taste of backlash in 2007 when a “Gossip Girl”-style site posted a letter she had allegedly written asking the catty girls on her social scene “for acceptance, privacy and forgiveness.” A lawsuit ensued (Olivia vehemently denied writing the letter) and we eventually forgot about her — until she was cast as the antagonist on the MTV reality show “The City” the next year. Next time, Olivia, it might be wise to be a little nicer to Whitney Port if you want to boost your public image.

Olivia Palermo has yet another string to add to her bow, that of shoe designer!  Salvatore Ferragamo asked Olivia, along with Alexandra Richards and Camilla Belle to put their own spin on Ferragamo’s classic Vara shoe.

“Both Vara and Varina are frequently worn by young fashion girls, models and celebrities around the world, so we decided to choose 20 VIP international style icons that embody the inherently chic spirit of the shoe and the timeless modernity of our brand,” says Director of Women’s Leather Goods, James Ferragamo.

The Leader Post report that, “Olivia Palermo created a two-tone blue shoe for strolls through Paris, and Camilla Belle made hers in beige patent leather with a crisp white ribbon to wear with an ethereal peach-colored garden party dress. Alexandra Richards went for black on black. She said she’d wear them ‘with tight blue or black jeans, a T-shirt and my leather jacket.’”

To show off the new designs, Ferragamo launched an online project called “L’Icona” this Wednesday, May 1.  They enlisted portrait photographer Claiborne Swanson Frank as the curator and art director for L’Icona, which includes a short film and still photographs of Olivia, Camilla, Alexandra as well as fashion-forward VIP’s like Lily Aldridge and Elettra Weidemann.

One of the most exciting things to come out of this project is that Ferragamo have decided to open things up for their customers, and are already taking orders for custom-designed Vara’s.  So you too can make your own color combination and fabric choices like Olivia did!

Olivia Palermo continued her love of mixing high-low fashion at a Louis Vuitton store opening in Munich, Germany, on Thursday, April 25.

The former star of theCity wore a drop-waisted, mini dress with a Peter Pan collar from Louis Vuitton’s 2013 resort collection, and accessorized with a pair of $50 Zara brown leather heels.

Olivia is well known for mixing designer and high street styles; we’d go as far as saying it’s the key to her ongoing fashion appeal.

The Rules

Cosmopolitan

Olivia Palermo attended the Alizé COCO Pineapple and COCO Peach launch event in New York on Wednesday, April 10, and shared her Top 8 Fashion Rules with Cosmopolitan magazine:

1. Look to your style icon for inspiration. “My style icon is young, stylish girls that I see on the street. I could be in Tokyo, London, Paris, and I just like seeing how girls style themselves and enjoy fashion—whether they’re in [the industry] or not. For me that’s an inspiration. Classic films are really inspiring to me, as well.”

2. Make a statement. ”A statement piece of jewelry, like a cocktail ring or great bracelet is something you can wear everyday to add a polished touch.”

3. Play with patterns. “Stripes are huge for spring, but I think that the important part is to play with different versions, like wearing a horizontal-striped top with vertically-striped bottoms.”

4. Don’t be afraid of color. “It’s everywhere this spring, so wear it!”

5. Buy yourself a pair of leather (real or faux) shorts. ”I’m a leather shorts girl. During the day, you can pair them with ballet flats, and at night you can wear them with heels. But just make sure they’re not too short.”

6. Shop at Zara. “I’m a big Zara fan, and they always seem to have something to round out an outfit. Plus, their pieces aren’t too expensive.”

7. Wear the right proportions for your body. “The biggest fashion faux paus I see when I’m walking down the street is when girls don’t wear the right proportions for their body.”

8. Toughen up your girlie gear. “I like to look polished [and feminine], but there has to be a touch of masculinity to my outfit. It just makes it feel more comfortable, and if you’re uncomfortable in what you’re wearing, other people can tell.”

Our favorite Hills2City couple, Olivia Palermo and Johannes Huebl, took a stylish stroll through New York’s West Village on Sunday afternoon, April 14.

From Olivia’s beautiful faux fur coat, we guess it’s not quite as warm on the East Coast this weekend, but hey, at least it’s not snowing!  The fashion icon layered a white shirt under her coat, also wearing distressed skinny jeans, black suede ankle boots, black sunglasses and carried a two-tone clutch bag.

Johotness wore an effortless weekend look of straight-leg jeans, black New Balance sneakers, a plaid shirt and black knit sweater.  He accessorized with a silver sporty watch and black sunglasses.

Olivia recently spoke to Cosmopolitan magazine about her personal style, explaining, “I like to look polished, but there has to be a touch of masculinity to my outfit.  It just makes it feel more comfortable, and if you’re uncomfortable in what you’re wearing, other people can tell.”
