That was fast. Just days after Whitney Port announced that theCity was canceled, she already has a job on another reality series. Only this one is based on people more plastic than Heidi Montag, or as plastic as her.
Whitney Port will host “Genuine Ken: The Search for the Great American Boyfriend,” an online reality series featuring Barbie’s ex boyfriend. The happy couple broke up on Valentine’s Day in 2004. The series will be exclusively on Hulu starting on January 18 and will air over eight 22-minute episodes.
Ken’s Betty White-like resurgence in life is due to his high profile role in Disney and Pixar’s ”Toy Story 3.” For Ken’s new reality show, he’s getting a new look.
Of the show, Variety writes, “In the reality show, eight men between the ages of 21 and 30 will compete in a series of elimination challenges to prove that they possess Ken’s qualities in order to be “the ultimate boyfriend for every occasion,” including being able to surf, design, have a sense of fashion and show a romantic side.”
The Whitney Port hosted reality show is in an effort for Mattel to reach out to the grown up audience that grew up with Barbie but may never buy another doll, but will connect to the brand in other ways. With Whitney’s barbie-like features, she’s the perfect person for the show for several reasons.
