The City: Episode 7: “The Truth Hurts”

This episode found Allie Crandell at the center of the drama…again.  Who needs Whitney-what’s-her-face?

We began with the girls Whitney Port, Erin Lucas, Samantha the Begdorf Goodman worker, and Allie Crandell grabbing some food.  Whitney tells the girls that her mentor/friend/former boss Kelly Cutrone was having a birthday party Wednesday.  Samantha can’t make it, but unfortunately for Allie, she can make it and is awfully excited to attend.

The night of the party, Allie and Erin meet up with Whitney at her apartment.  Whitney gives a fair forewarning to her friends that Kelly is one of those people who keeps it real.  She either likes you or she doesn’t, and she doesn’t have a problem letting you know about it.  Allie is so happy because she loves those type of people who are brutally honest.  She can’t wait to ask Kelly what she thinks of her outfit.  So she thinks.

So the group arrives to the club, and Kelly shows up a few minutes later.  Whitney introduces everyone and Allie still thinks she wants to know what Kelly thinks of her, so she asks her what she thinks about her outfit.  Kelly tells her to loose the leggings.  At this point there’s still smiles and giggles.  Then Kelly asks Allie what’s wrong with her.  It goes something like this: “what’s wrong with you”, “are you ok”, “you look sick”.  As if there was something wrong Allie would have a therapy session in the middle of a club? Then Kelly goes to DJ.

Meanwhile, in less significant news, Erin runs into her ex-boyfriend J.R. who we later find out was her first love and the guy she compares every subsequent guy to.  Her now boyfriend Duncan (who she really doesn’t seem to like) is the first one who compared to J.R.  After the club Erin’s ex-boyfriend swings by her place and doesn’t leave until the morning.  Now it’s ever apparent why Erin likes having this long distance relationship with Duncan.

Then Allie, Kelly and Whitney reconvene and Allie tells Kelly she just switched modeling agencies and is now with “One”.  Kelly name drops that she knows Scott Lipps from “One” management.  Then we have a replay of Kelly and Allie’s prior conversation, Kelly offers to help Allie with her unconfirmed weight issues, and this time in the middle Allie gets up and jets out the club.  Whitney, the good friend she is, tells Kelly adios and runs after Allie.  Allie asks Whitney who does Kelly thinks she is?  Allie says she thinks Kelly is a b**** and needs to mind her own business.  Oh snap!

The next day Whitney and Erin are discussing Allie’s unfortunate situation since she just finished dealing with a cheating boyfriend, now she’s dealing with mean (or just real depending on how you see it) older women calling her out in clubs!  Erin stops Whitney to talk about her own man problems and the triangle she finds herself in.  Then Allie drops by the party and tells the girls she’s used to being called skinny, because she’s a model, and that’s the business.  But Allie says she’s healthy and happy the way she is, and she gets work.

Oh yeah…Allie found time when she wasn’t in drama to get Erin a job at her agency One Management since we know MTV requires the main players to have some sort of real person job.  Erin’s new boss, Scott Lipps, tells Erin they’re having a company party and she has to come.  Then Erin gets her very own work friend who she can tell about her guy problems.  His job is to dispense advice.  He did.  On her first day she spilled her life story to him.  Who does that?  MTV probably had something to do with it.

Next we’re at the Scott Lipps’ party which if you’ve been reading this you can probably tell it has all the makings of more drama.  Scott Lipps is Allie’s modeling agent, knows Kelly Cutrone, and he’s having a party.  So yes all the key players show up at the dinner- Kelly, Allie, Adam, and even Jay makes an appearance.  Jay says Whitney’s not there because she’s still at “work”.  We don’t know if it’s Diane von Furstenberg “work”, or the work MTV won’t let us see.  Kelly apologizes to Allie and Adam wants to confront Kelly, but Allie backs him down.

Kelly brings some girl with her who she says she’s going to use for some of her shows and says Scott should sign her.  Despite the fact that Allie’s quite an accomplished model, she feels threatened.

Allie confides in her man Adam and tells him that there are models who are way skinner than she is.  And Adam says he knows because he works with them.  Then Adam wonders why Whitney confides in Kelly.  We can answer- because Kelly and Whitney get along.

When Whitney gets to work she tells Olivia about the drama.  As usual, Olivia tells Whitney not to get involved.  Whitney says she’s going to anyway.  And she does.  She goes to talk to Kelly tell-it-like-it-is Cutrone about how she put Whitney in an awkward position and basically told her she disagreed with what she did and said.    Kelly asks Whitney if she’s doing her job as a person, but Whitney tells Kelly she still disagrees with her.  Kelly said she didn’t care and wouldn’t apologize because the truth hurts.
