The City: Episode 6: “He Never Said He Had A Girlfriend”

The City began this week with drama spilling over from last week.  Whitney and crew are preparing to go to Adam’s (the maybe cheater) art show. Allie, Adam’s girlfriend (for now) is discussing her drama with Whitney saying she believes Adam, but she’s thinking of asking the girl, Catarina, if she was making this all up or not.  What a novel idea.  The girl made up a random story about you and your boyfriend, and when she confronts you she’ll confess she made it all up?  Wrong.  Whitney, revising her advice giving role, wisely tells Allie if she believes Adam she shouldn’t need to ask the girl.  This, after Whitney also wisely said their boyfriends are living a lifestyle that leads them to constantly question their actions.

When Whitney gets to work, she seeks solace in the drama-filled situation with her pouty lips co-worker, Olivia Palermo.  Whitney tells Olivia the situation and Olivs scoffs at Whitney and tells her to “stop acting like she’s in high school” and basically says she doesn’t want to be involved in little kid games.  Doesn’t she realize she was cast specifically to talk about this kind of drama?  All in one Olivia disses the role Whitney played on The Hills and the role she’s supposed to fill on The City. Whitney invites Olivia to the art show, and Olivia says she thinks she can make it.  She does.

Samantha and Catarina have lunch at Sam’s workplace, Bergdorff Goodman, and Sam tells Catarina that Allie believes Adam, and she should tell Allie what happened, girl to girl.

Next, Whitney’s boyfriend, Jay, and his best friend Adam, are out buying liquor for Adam’s art event.  Jay tells Adam that their girls are on this “man hating” thing.  So Jay wants to know if anything really happened between Adam and Catarina.  Adam, realizing he’s on camera chooses to say nothing.  Which really means “yeah it happened”.

Then we see Erin and Whitney getting ready for the party and they talk about nothing important.  Then they get to the gallery where some action happens.  Catarina contemplates ruining Allie’s night by telling her she kissed her boyfriend.  To this, Allie remarks that Catarina should just come tell her instead of telling everyone she wants to tell Allie.  Great point!  Allie calls the drama in The City high school (note: this is the second time this episode).  So Catarina finally grows some and tells Allie that Adam never told her he had a girlfriend, and yes, they did kiss as everyone but Allie believes at this point.  Catarina apologizes.  Catarina apologizes again.  Catarina apologizes again.  She actually starts looking really crazy and like maybe she could have concocted some big huge fictional story for no reason at all.  I mean why would you apologize so much when you didn’t even know Adam had a girlfriend and Allie’s not even your friend.  We understand sympathy but being moved to tears?

Then Allie cries a river and rushes to the bathroom.  Whitney follows before Adam barges in to say some more “sorry honey”‘s.  He plays the “there’s nothing I can do card” and asks if Allie wants him to go yell at Catarina, secretly praying Allie will decline the invitation.  If you ask us, that should go without saying.  No need for him to yell at the girl, but who doesn’t confront someone who made up a lie about them?  Someone who is guilty of cheating of course.

Allie says she can’t be there anymore and jets off to catch a cab.  Adam tries to tell Allie he understands how she feels and she can stay at the apartment for the night and he’ll sleep somewhere else.

The next day the dust has settled and rolled into Olivia’s apartment.  Her cousin Nevan of course.  He accompanied her to the party and of course had to share how he thought it was too “downtown” for him.  Downtown because the people there are the type that like to wear fedoras when they are fashionable.  We don’t get him either.  Because he’s the farthest downtown of them all.

Now we’re back to Whitney’s apartment where she’s scolding Jay because his friend cheated on his girlfriend.  Jay says that doesn’t mean he’s going to cheat on Whitney.  Whitney says she doesn’t like liars and Jay’s friends are a reflection of who Jay is.  Understandable point, but if Jay’s gonna cheat he’s gonna do it with or without Adam’s lead!

The episode concludes with Allie meeting Adam for dinner.  Adam pours on the compliments really thick and apologizes (which he’s so bad at).  But Allie says they always said they would be a team so she can’t believe random Catarina over her love, Adam.  They kiss and make-up and probably both sleep at the apartment that night.
